Jurgen Klopp’s appearance and insights on Sky Sport’s Monday Night Football has been in the making for over a year. Jamie Carragher, the legendary Liverpool defender, finally brought Klopp to the show after trying for a long time.

Carragher is a pundit for Sky Sports and has been one of the best personalities on television. But Klopp stole the show before the Burnley-Watford clash. The pre-match show was one of the most anticipated editions, and Klopp did not disappoint.

The Liverpool defender was talking to the 5Times podcast as he praised Klopp for his performance.

“He was brilliant. Afterwards everyone was talking about it and it seems like it went down well.

“We knew before we got him on he is box office. He has done the job before in Germany, but he has just got that type of character that whatever he puts his hand to people instantly take a liking to him because of his charisma.”

Carragher also revealed his delight when Klopp decided to come onto the show.

“I’m delighted Liverpool have got him and delighted he came on the show – I’ve been asking him for about 12 months. He went down a storm.”

A first long discussion amongst the duo

The Liverpool legend was also hoping that bringing a bright mind like Klopp to the show would have provided a few smiles from the Sky team. This was possibly the first proper meeting between the two. Carragher is not a regular at Liverpool since his playing days and highlighted how much people like watching Klopp.

“I don’t know Jurgen Klopp that well. I’ve met him a couple of times and had a five or 10 minute chat with him to try to get him on the show.

“I don’t see him at Anfield and I don’t go to Melwood, so I don’t have a massive relationship with him.

“But he is one of the top guests to get on and fortunately we did it, and he has got me some brownie points with Sky, I would imagine!

“Everybody respects him and enjoys watching him. So it wasn’t just Liverpool fans watching him Monday, it was fans around the country.”

The former England defender did say that Klopp was the best performer they had got in recent times.

“We’ve had a few on, we’ve had Ronald Koeman, Brendan Rodgers, Roberto Martinez but there’s no doubt Klopp is the biggest name and best performer. Hopefully we can get more of that calibre.

“Jurgen is a natural for TV and if he ever stops managing then I think I might have a problem because I think Sky will be desperate to get him! Hopefully he stays at Liverpool as long as he can.”

Not the smartest move from Klopp?

While many have raved for his insights on football, there are those who have questioned him going onto the show. Klopp was pretty open about his tactics and how he has applied his approach at the club. While he did not go into detail, there will be those who might pick up on Liverpool’s nuances.

The Reds have been extremely bright this season and have beaten Leicester City, Arsenal and Chelsea. The only blot was the defeat against Burnley but Klopp seems to have drilled his side well after that.

The Reds next face Swansea away and it will be interesting to see how the Welsh team perform. They were quite good against Manchester City but ended up losing 3-1. Francesco Guidolin might have tuned into Sky Sports to try and pick up a few pointers and beat the Reds.

These are the kind of games that Liverpool have to win if they want to finish in the top four. If the Reds perform similar to what they did against Hull City, there are no doubts that Klopp will be celebrating a great week.

After just one appearance on MNF, how many of you are ready to bet in favour of Klopp to become a better pundit than Carragher?
