Liverpool have been given some good news ahead of their anticipated clash against Manchester United after the international break. Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne were two players who were major doubts for the clash against the Red Devils but reports from the Liverpool Echo suggest that both stars will be fit for the game.
Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana picked up groin injuries at the Liberty Stadium in their hard fought 2-1 win. Liverpool were slightly lucky that the injuries came just before the international break. The Croatian has pulled out of the games against Kosovo and Finland while Clyne pulled out of England’s clashes during the international break.
The return of Lovren and Clyne should ensure that Liverpool do not have to experiment with the back four when they face United on October 17. The Reds might have had to bring in Alberto Moreno and Ragnar Klavan into the side.
Jurgen Klopp would be happy to keep a set back four in the clash against United. Liverpool would have wanted to reduce any changes in the side given that they are yet to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League. Manchester United would have been hoping that the chemistry in the Liverpool team would have been affected by the losses but the Reds will be losing out on just one player it seems.
Adam Lallana still a doubt for the United game
The same report from the Echo states that Adam Lallana is a major doubt for the big clash. Lallana was withdrawn from the England game straight after picking up the injury against Swansea. And although his injury is not expected to be serious, it is a race against time for the English attacker to be fit for the game.
Lallana has been one of Liverpool’s best players this season and his absence from the midfield will greatly limit the side’s attacking play. He has been going through intensive treatment at Melwood but rushing the player’s return could lead to a longer spell out of the team.
Liverpool do have great options in midfield and Emre Can could be brought into the holding role with Jordan Henderson being pushed a little further. James Milner could have been shifted to midfield but that would leave a huge gap in the left-back role, which the Englishman has done well in.
It will be interesting to see just who Klopp decides to shift into the midfield trio. Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum are sure shots to play but would it be Emre Can starting against the Red Devils? Only time will tell but it is going to be a fantastic game on October 17.
