Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with a move for Leonardo Pavoletti. The 27-year-old currently plays for Genoa and has done pretty well in front of goal for the Serie A side.
Pavoletti joined Genoa in 2015 and has already scored 22 league goals in 37 games for the club. The Italian was actually playing Serie B football before making the step up to the top flight. Surprisingly he was set for a move to Leeds United but he decided to stay in Italy and hone his skills.
The current Genoa striker has been a bit of a journeyman and has played for numerous clubs in Italy. His form in Italy has attracted interest from the two Red sides in the Premier League according to Tuttomercatoweb.
The report also claimed that both Liverpool and Arsenal sent scouts to watch the striker in play. It does seem to be a bit of a surprise that both the clubs have sent out people to watch the Italian. This season he has scored twice in five games and he plays mostly as a central striker. Pavoletti is known for his finishing ability and also winning duels in the air, which is a bit of a surprising facet of his game.
Arsenal and Liverpool don’t need a player who is great in the air. In fact, Liverpool needs someone who can put pressure on the opposition defence, something that Roberto Firmino has been doing pretty well all season.
Both clubs already have decent options in the striking department. In fact, both the teams have different options to use which gives them the ability to change game plans on the fly. Liverpool have Roberto Firmino at the moment leading the line, and his running and energy are perfect for their style of play.
The Reds also have Divock Origi, who can give them the strength and steel in the attack. The Belgian is extremely quick and great in the air as well. We cannot forget about Daniel Sturridge, even though he has not started as many games as he would have liked.
The English striker is lethal in the box and his finishing is second to none. Liverpool also have Danny Ings waiting in case any of the aforementioned stars get injured.
Bringing in a player who has not played in the top division for a long time is a bit of a risk. It is a bigger issue when the player has not even played in the country. And signing Pavoletti doesn’t make sense for either club at the moment.
Pavoletti should spend a couple more seasons to showcase his ability in Italy and if he does well, he could end up playing for a top-top club in the world.
