Even with the transfer market closed for almost a couple of months, Liverpool are still being linked with players. The latest star being touted as a future Red is Geoffrey Kondogbia. The French midfielder, who is currently in Inter Milan, was a target for the Reds in the summer as reported by Web Calcio.

The French midfielder has played four games for the Serie A side this season and mostly starts in the heart of midfield. The 23-year-old was exceptional in Ligue 1 but has found it hard to adjust to the rigours of Serie A.

There are many that rate him as the next Paul Pogba and after spending just one season in Italy, it doesn’t really make a lot of sense. Kondogbia is yet to impress many but his agent is open to the fact that several clubs are after his client.

“Despite the current situation, Geoffrey is relaxed. There are no problems and he is happy at Inter,” Kondogbia’s agent Jonathan Maarek told TuttoMercatoWeb, which was reported by the Mirror.

“Kondogbia is certainly a top level player. He has a lot of quality and is very young, so obviously he has a lot of clubs interested in him.

“Can I name them? I will just say that he is not lacking interested clubs.”

Does the deal actually make sense?

Everything that an agent blurts out should be taken with a pinch of salt and this rumour is no different. Looking at the facts in hand, Kondogbia might want to leave Inter Milan and his agent is doing the good talk that is required.

Looking at Liverpool’s point of view, the Reds are already blessed in the heart of the team. While they are playing with Jordan Henderson as the holding midfielder, they also have many options waiting.

Emre Can cannot get a game at the moment and he would be the choice should a defensive midfielder be needed in the side. Even Marko Grujic has impressed in the EFL Cup and he too can do a good job, even though he is young.

While no one is doubting Kondogbia’s ability, there is a lot which has to be seen regarding the Frenchman. He might have done well in Ligue 1 but his struggles in the Italian league are well documented.

The Reds have options but if they do sign Kondogbia, it would only add more competition in the side. The risk is there whenever it comes to signing overseas players and for this deal, the negatives far outweigh the positives.

Kondogbia is not the next Pogba, not even by a long shot and Liverpool should do well to avoid signing the Frenchman.
