Barcelona On A Hunt For This Liverpool Star As Klopp Wants To Tie Him Down On A Long Term Contract

One of Liverpool’s brightest stars from this season, Philippe Coutinho, is in line for a new contract. The Sunday People report that the Brazilian is a key player for Jurgen Klopp and the German wants to tie Coutinho down to a long term contract.

Coutinho has scored three goals and provided two assists this season and looks set to get better as the season progresses. The 24-year-old, along with Sadio Mane, has been the bright sparks in attack and even Adam Lallana is in the form of his life.

Liverpool wants to tie up the Brazilian as they fear that Barcelona would be looking to sign the attacking midfielder. The Catalan club is always on the lookout for talent and Coutinho fits the bill at the Camp Nou, especially under this kind of form.

Even Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a move for the Brazilian and if Coutinho keeps performing at this level, it will attract more teams to the talented player.

Coutinho did pen a deal 18 months ago to increase his wages but Klopp doesn’t think much about that. The German is ready to provide a new deal to keep the Brazilian at Liverpool till 2022 and even Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren are in line to receive new contracts.

Coutinho’s stock is on the rise

The 24-year-old has been in fine fettle this season and his performances in the new 4-3-3 system adopted by Klopp certainly is bringing out the best in him. Coutinho, Lallana and Mane have been the best players for Liverpool in the attack and Klopp wants to keep the trio for as long as possible.

The German himself signed a new contract recently to stay at the club for the foreseeable future. The worry for Klopp would be the friendship Coutinho shares with Barcelona star Neymar. This is something that Barcelona could exploit and certainly playing for the La Liga club would lead to more silverware than playing for Liverpool.

Coutinho has to make a decision but for now, he should remain at Liverpool. The Brazilian is still not the finished article and the more games he plays the better it is for him. Moving to Barcelona would mean a fight to stay in the starting XI and he could never get ahead of the Messi-Suarez-Neymar triad.

The former Inter Milan star should see how things go with Liverpool this season. Should they fail to make it to the Champions League or end up without a trophy, he should look to move away. But if Liverpool do play well and pick up something, this could be the start of something special for the Reds and Coutinho.
