Manchester United Legend Turns Down An Opportunity To Manage Liverpool

Ryan Giggs might not have taken up the Swansea City job but he still ruled out managing Liverpool, should the job even be offered to him. The Manchester United legend was speaking at the Welsh Community Football Awards and shared his story about supporting Manchester United as a youngster.

The legend was quoted by the Manchester Evening News

“I moved from Cardiff to Salford when I was seven. You were literally growing up encouraged to dislike people from Liverpool.

“I played for Salford under-11s and you would play Sefton, Liverpool boys, Bootle boys and the rivalry was so great. You grow up with it.”

The Welshman isn’t into management at the moment and is working as a pundit. While the Swansea job was a no go for the 42-year-old, the Liverpool job just cannot be taken up under any circumstance.

“No. Just a no. That’s no disrespect to Liverpool, I just wouldn’t. I would no longer have friends.

“Liverpool is a team who, for me, was always our biggest rivals because, growing up, they were winning everything and they were the team to emulate. They are a fantastic club but the rivalry is too big for me to manage Liverpool.”

The 13-time Premier League champion also compared a similar situation with Steven Gerrard and if he was asked to manage Manchester United.

“I’m sure Steven Gerrard would say the same about managing Manchester United. He would simply say no.”

The double Champions League winner also stated the reason why he supported Manchester United in the first place.

“I was always a United fan — my grandmother hammered it home — ‘You are a United fan.’ She loved the Busby Babes, she loved George Best. She was the driving force behind me being a Man United supporter.”

Big game is on the mind of all

The one clash that everyone is looking forward to is the Liverpool-Manchester United game. Giggs has also been part of many such clashes and for once, it is Liverpool who could come out on top with a victory.

The Reds have been incredible this season and certainly playing at home will make the Merseyside club tough to beat. That, coupled with the first year celebrations of Jurgen Klopp at the club will certainly make it an occasion to look forward to.

Manchester United, on the other hand, have not been in the best of form but if it is any game that will get the Red Devils on the right track, it is a match against Liverpool.
