Liverpool Complete Deal For Welsh Striker – Signs First Professional Contract With The Club

Liverpool’s new policy of singing up youngsters on long-term contracts has brought them another player. Ben Woodburn, who turned 17 recently, has signed his first professional contract according to reports from Liverpool Echo. 

Woodburn is a Welsh footballer who was born in England. The 17-year-old has played for the Liverpool FC academy and has signed a three-year deal, which is the longest length of contract a player of his age group can sign up for.

The youngster was impressive for the Reds during the pre-season and played in the games against Wigan Athletic and Tranmere. The striker ensured that he would be spoken about as he scored in both the games and certainly has a bright future ahead of him.

A rise from the academy for Woodburn

The Welshman came through the ranks at the Merseyside club and was part of the U18 team even though he was just 15 years of age. Woodburn did perform brilliantly for that team as he scored almost on a regular basis. One of his goals was breath-taking, a bicycle kick against rivals Manchester United.

decided to represent Wales, even though he was born in England. The 17-year-old was playing for Chester but he made the decision almost at the same time as he moved to Liverpool at an early age.

The striker is known for his excellent pace and great finishing ability. Many of the coaches at Anfield tip him to have a great career ahead of him, should he continue playing in this way. Robbie Fowler is the player that many have likened him to but it would take a long time to see if Woodburn can be even close to the legend that is Fowler.

Chances for youngsters by Klopp

Jurgen Klopp did recently say that the only time he would be looking to buy new players is if Liverpool do not have a youngster that can do the job. That will be great news for youngsters such as Woodburn. And with players such as Ovie Ejaria and Sheyi Ojo already getting a few minutes for the senior side, it should not be long before Woodburn gets to play for the senior side.

The best chance would be in the EFL Cup, where players such as Marko Grujic and Kevin Stewart are getting important minutes. Liverpool do have a rough diamond in Woodburn but it all depends on how they can polish him with a lot of years left in his career.
