After the great start to the season, everyone expected Liverpool to go past Manchester United at Anfield. Unfortunately for the Reds, their plans were scuffed quite well by Jose Mourinho and even though the Reds could not win the game, they did get a point.
Even bigger than that was the fact that the Reds kept their first clean sheet of the Premier League. Another positive for the side was the performance of the defensive pairing of Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip. The duo was almost perfect and kept Zlatan Ibrahimovic quiet for almost the entire game.
The performances this season have provided the Reds with a lot of confidence ahead of their games. And Lovren was confident that the Merseyside club has the ability to defeat just about any opposition. A bold statement indeed. He was quoted by the club’s official website saying as;
“Every game is a ‘win’ game for us,” said Lovren. “We have the quality to beat everyone, when you look at the teams we have played already.
“It’s just about a winning mentality. If we can keep that, at the end of the season we can be proud.”
West Brom are not easy opponents for the Reds
Last season’s ties ended up as draws between the sides. The match at Anfield was a memorable one as Divock Origi scored a late goal to grab a point and Klopp took his side and thanked the fans for the support.
The match also saw a heated exchange between the two managers and everyone knows what a Tony Pulis side is capable of doing. The Reds will be looking to avoid another draw as dropping points against teams from the lower half of the league will scupper any plans of making it into the top four this season.
The Croatian defender was not going to take West Brom lightly and highlighted their physical style of play but he did expect the team to get the job done.
“Whenever I have played against West Brom it was a really difficult game, physically and mentally,” said Lovren.
“It will again be a tough game, but I think we need to learn from our mistakes from last year when we played them here. We know what we can expect, but now it is a different situation.
“We improved a lot with Jürgen. We were really good last season when he came, but now we are flying. We just need to keep that winning spirit.”
A tough test on the cards
West Brom will not be pushovers and they know that Liverpool do not have the most confident goalkeeper in the world. Loris Kauris has looked shaky this season and if the Baggies can knock in a few balls and test the goalkeeper, it could be a tough night for the home side.
Liverpool need to start brightly and put West Brom under the cosh. If they can play in a similar manner to what they did against Hull City, it will certainly be an easy three points for the Merseyside club.
