Philippe Coutinho’s season is getting better by the game and he is receiving rave reviews by many football pundits. After his great performance against West Bromwich Albion, even former Liverpool player Jamie Redknapp is going gaga over the 24-year-old Brazilian.

While writing for his column in the Daily Mail, the former Red stated that Coutinho was possibly the best number 10 in the entire league.

“Philippe Coutinho was different class against West Brom. He scored a great goal and created three chances in Liverpool’s win. Compared with the players in his position at the other top-four sides, Coutinho is staking a claim to be the league’s best No 10.”

With stats to back him up, Coutinho has scored more goals than Kevin De Bruyne, Mesut Ozil and even Dele Alli. The former Inter Milan star, who joined the Reds in 2013, also has the most number of successful dribbles amongst the quartet with 23 compared to the next best, which is Alli with just 13.

Coutinho also has the best shooting accuracy from the four players with an incredible 62% compared to Alli, who trails in second place with 53% of his shots hitting the target.

Coutinho on fire at the start of the season

One of the biggest criticisms of Coutinho in the past has been his lack of consistency. The Brazilian would be great in one game and then go missing in another. But that has not been the case this time around.

Coutinho has started the season rather well and already has four goals to his name in the Premier League. The 24-year-old also has a couple of assists to his name and was responsible for the first goal against the Baggies with a great drop of the shoulder and a dummy.

The Brazilian has also formed a great partnership with the rest of the forwards and the midfield at Liverpool. Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Coutinho have formed an effective attack while Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana are doing a great job in midfield.

Coutinho’s performances have attracted attention from some of the biggest clubs in the world as well. PSG have been heavily linked with a move for the Liverpool star while Real Madrid and Barcelona are always on the lookout for upcoming talent.

Reds have to hold on to Coutinho

No matter what the price is, Coutinho has to be held onto by the Premier League club. Selling him to any other team would just signal an intent that every player is up for sale, something that has hurt Liverpool in the past.

If the Reds are to build something for the future, they have to keep hold of their star players. And Coutinho, being one of them, needs to stay for a long time for Liverpool to get back to their glory days.
