Liverpool’s love with players based in the Bundesliga seems to be bringing a lot of talent to the club. Joel Matip and Loris Karius are two players who have slotted straight into the first team at the club and another player, this time from Schalke is on the radar of Jurgen Klopp, according to the German paper Bild.

Sead Kolasinac, a Bosnia and Herzegovina international, has been playing for Schalke since 2012 and has made more than 90 appearances for the side. The 23-year-old has spent most of his career in the Bundesliga having come through the Karlsruhe’s academy at first and then having stints at Stuttgart, Hoffenheim before signing for Schalke to complete his development.

The left-back can actually play in a range of positions and is comfortable across the back line. He can also play as a left-winger but Klopp would be targeting the 23-year-old to fill in a gap in the team.

A proper left-back for the club?

Kolasinac is an attacking left-back but he has been great in the defensive third as well. The 23-year-old would obviously plug the gap that is regarding the left-back role in the Liverpool side at the moment.

James Milner might be the first choice player for this role but this is not his natural position. The fact that Milner is over 30 will also be playing on Klopp’s mind. Alberto Moreno isn’t all that great of an option as he is prone to making errors and will probably stay on as the second choice this season.

The 23-year-old Schalke man would be another shrewd signing by Klopp, should he complete the move for the Bosnian. Kolasinac might have spent all his years in Germany but the lure of Klopp could be tempting, after all, the former Borussia Dortmund manager did bring in Joel Matip from the same club this season on a free transfer.

The fact that the left-back’s contract is ending at the club is good news for the Reds as they can start negotiations with the defender as early as January. Even Matip’s announcement came in the month of February and the centre-back has been excellent for the Reds this season.

Klopp would have to move fast if he is to ensure the signing of the highly rated left-back. There are a few issues with the defender as he recovered from an ACL injury but he has slowly regained his fitness and seems sturdy enough to perform at Liverpool.

While many would not have heard of Kolasinac at the moment, Liverpool fans should trust Jurgen with his signings. Matip, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum can be called as successes, while the jury is still out on Karius and Marko Grujic.

The Reds have been extremely wise with regards to their spending in the transfer window and this player could be another great signing for the Reds, should Klopp complete the move.
