Liverpool’s belief in the youth system this season certainly has seen a lot of academy players make it to the first team of the Merseyside club. The Reds are now reportedly keen on another youngster who plays for Ipswich Town.

Andre Dozzell, who plays as a midfielder for the Championship side, is the target for the Reds. The 17-year-old did create history when he made his senior appearance for Mick McCarthy’s side earlier in the year. Dozzell came on to score in his first professional senior appearance against Sheffield Wednesday, a feat that his father had also achieved during his playing days.

The youngster then signed a new deal with the Tractor Boys in hopes of getting more playing time but he has been reduced to just a 45-minute appearance in an EFL Cup game. That might be one reason that he would be willing to move away and there are a number of Premier League clubs already vying for his signature.

Another youngster at Liverpool

The Daily Mirror believes that Liverpool are the frontrunners for the signature of the highly-rated midfielder. The Reds are expected to lodge a bid of £2m for the 17-year-old and they might not want to lose out on the talent like they did with Dele Alli a couple of years ago.

That time, Tottenham were willing to pay the fee to MK Dons for the talented youngster and that has paid great dividends for the London club. Dozzell seems to have a bright future ahead of him and he mostly plays in the centre of midfield, though he can play in an advanced role as well.

The 17-year-old has also played and captained the England U17 side and is now playing for the England U18 setup. Dozzell has been a target for the Reds for quite some time and it will be interesting to see if the Merseyside club move for him in the winter window.

The Ipswich man would probably be sent into the reserve side if he were to sign with the Reds or even be sent to the academy to gauge his abilities. It would be tough for Dozzell to make the first team for the side, however; he probably would not want to move to a club where he is no guaranteed playing time.

Surprisingly his father, Jason Dozzell moved from Ipswich to Tottenham in his playing days and Liverpool would hope such a move is not taken up by Andre. The Merseyside club already have a lot of talent in their academy and bringing in one more star certainly will not hurt. It will be interesting to see if the Reds do move for him at all or wait for another club to make the first move.
