Liverpool’s rise to the top of the Premier League has been achieved through some wonderful attacking displays. The Reds are the top scorers in the league and have notched up 30 goals in 11 games this season.
The Reds have a number of signings that have done well in this term but a lot of credit goes to Sadio Mane, who has fit into the team like a glove. The Senegalese scored a brace in the 6-1 demolition of Watford and there are many who are worried as to the impact Mane’s loss will have on the Merseyside club.
The former Southampton man will be on African Cup of Nations duty and that could greatly impact the performance of the Liverpool attack. A former Liverpool player believes that the Reds should sign new players in the January transfer window if they are to keep up their momentum.
Wigan left-back Stephen Warnock, who was part of the Liverpool side from 2002 to 2007, was speaking to LFC TV, via Inside Futbol.
“You’re top of the league, or in the mix, suddenly you’re playing some of the most exciting football in the world – people are thinking ‘I want to join this, I want to be part of that. They are going to be in the Champions League next year and I want Champions League football and I want to be playing it for Liverpool’.”
Greater support will spur on players
Warnock was also sure that the new stand constructed at the start of the season will have a knock on effect as the Reds look to bring in new players.
“They will be looking at the new stand, over 50,000 people [At Anfield] and suddenly Liverpool have jumped up.
“So people are thinking they want to be part of that.”
The Reds have to find a replacement for Mane and Klopp did mention that the side will be looking for new signings in the January window. The Reds had already lined up a move for Christian Pulisic in the summer but they were thwarted by Borussia Dortmund.
It is expected that Jurgen will make another move for the highly talented American winger and that will certainly be a huge signing should it come true. The Reds are on top of the Premier League and if they can bring in a few more quality signings in the summer, they could end up winning the Premier League for the first time in their history.
