Liverpool Are Rumoured To Sign Barcelona Midfielder Amid Reports Of Barca’s Interest On Coutinho

Liverpool could be interested in adding to their attack in the January transfer window. The Reds are being linked with a move for Barcelona’s attacker Arda Turan according to Don Balon.

The Turkish star signed for the La Liga champions in 2015 but he hasn’t been able to claim a first team spot in the Spanish side. Turan moved from Atletico Madrid but only got to make his debut in 2016 due to a ban for the Catalan club. The 29-year-old has played eight La Liga games this campaign and has scored two goals and three assists.

The move could be in lieu of attacking the Catalan side as they have targeted Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season and is one reason why the Reds are on top of the table at the moment.

Turan needs to play more first team football

The Turkish international was a bit of a warrior at Atletico and his move to Barcelona certainly saw him add a bit of bite to the side. However, replacing any one of the players from Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi or Neymar isn’t easy, something that Arda has found at his time in Barcelona.

Liverpool, for their part, needs to bring in another attacker in the winter window. The manager, Jurgen Klopp, has to bring in another player as Sadio Mane would join Senegal in the African Cup of Nations, while Danny Ings is out for the season due to injury.

The Reds have built their Premier League charge on a brilliant attack and adding more quality to that aspect of the team will only help the side get better. Turan could be a great addition to the side. He might not be the youngest player out there but he is a hard working player and can be deployed in a range of positions.

The Turkish star can play as a winger or as a midfielder and that could be one reason why Klopp would be interested in him. Even in his first season as Liverpool manager, Klopp did sign Steven Caulker on loan from QPR as the Merseyside club needed some cover at the back.

Turan might not be a long-term solution for the Reds but he certainly adds a lot of quality and experience to a side that is still young. His combative nature would be something that the team could use and his price tag wouldn’t be the highest as well.

The Reds might not move for the Turkish star but he does seem a decent enough signing, should Klopp look for experience in January.
