Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has shared who he thinks are two favourites for the Premier League title. The Sky Sports pundit was quoted by Metro and he highlighted that two clubs with no European football will actually do well.

Liverpool and Chelsea are at the top of the table and the pair had incredible performances in the past weekend. While Chelsea won 5-0 against Everton, Liverpool demolished Watford 6-1 to go to the top ahead of the Blues.

“At the moment Chelsea and Liverpool I think purely are putting themselves out in front because of the fact they’re not playing in European football, they’re both confident and they’re going to take some stopping because of the fact they’ve got free weeks and they’ve got preparation time,” said Neville.

The multiple Premier League winner though was unsure about if both clubs could go all

“I think at the moment do I trust any of them to say that you’re going to win the league? I’d say no.

“But I think looking at those two they’re going to take some stopping with the fact that preparation time is key for those teams and we have seen it in the past.”

A similar story to 2013-14

The former England international also highlighted the other time when Liverpool played with a great attacking threat but not so much with defensive stability. In 2013-14 Brendan Rodgers almost took the Reds to the Premier League title but they failed.

The Merseyside club are back at the top of the Premier League for the first time since May 2014 thanks to the hammering of Watford but Neville was willing to give a bit of the edge to Chelsea between the pair, that could be due to the fact that he was a Manchester United player.

Liverpool’s attack has been the best in the Premier League with 30 goals scored in 11 games and they have already beaten Chelsea and Arsenal, away from Anfield. The Reds are in an incredible run of form and the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have been on fire so far this season.

If there is anything that can stop the Reds from winning the Premier League is their defence. The lack of clean sheets could be the Achilles heel for the Merseyside club. But if they keep attacking like they have been doing all season, they should end up with a title or two.
