Liverpool’s search for a quality left-back could be all but over. There are many reports coming out of England that the Reds are searching for quality in their side and the Mirror  reports that the Premier League leaders are looking at Luke Shaw to join the team.

For those not in the know, Shaw plays for Manchester United, Liverpool’s greatest rivals and the signing certainly will split opinion between fans. Shaw was one of the best players for Manchester United last season but an injury curtailed his season and he has made a terrific comeback to the side this campaign.

That, however, has not been enough for Jose Mourinho and the new Manchester United manager was critical of Shaw pulling out of a game recently as he was not fit. The 21-year-old has made 11 appearances this season but a number of them have come as a substitute.

A perfect player for the Liverpool team

There is no doubting the fact that Shaw is one of the most talented left-backs in the league and it would be a surprise seeing him sold by the Red Devils. The former Southampton man would be a perfect signing for the Reds and would just add to the ex-Saints players in the team.

The Reds have been playing with James Milner as a makeshift left-back and he has done a great job so far. But he isn’t a long-term solution for the Reds and Shaw would certainly solve that issue for years. The Englishman is quick on the ball and is known for his crossing ability, though he still needs a few more games to completely come up to the speed after his injury last season.

Liverpool do have Alberto Moreno in the side as a left-back but the Spaniard has been kept out of the side by Milner. The former Sevilla defender also has a history of making errors and Klopp would certainly be looking to replace him as soon as possible.

This would be a great deal for the Reds but many would remember the deal to bring in Gabriel Heinze. Rafa Benitez wanted to sign him for the Merseyside club but Alex Ferguson ensured that the Argentine would not move between the sides.

The £29m signing would certainly add quality to the Liverpool defence, which has only kept one clean sheet in the Premier League all season, but moving from United to Merseyside will be tough and it probably will not happen anytime soon.
