Liverpool and Everton are set to battle it out for one of South America’s hottest properties. Gustavo Viera, who plays in Uruguay, could be the next big thing that signs for either of the Merseyside clubs and he already plays for Liverpool – an Uruguayan football club.
This Liverpool is the one based in Uruguay and the 16-year-old is being tracked by scouts from both Premier League sides, reports The Sun. The Uruguay is pretty talented as he already plays for the U17 national side and has had a number of admirers of his talent.
Reports claim that Barcelona are also interested in his signing and that might make it tough for any side to battle the Catalan side for his signature. The 16-year-old does have an Italian passport which will make it easier for him to make it to Europe.
The Uruguayan is being compared to Adriano, who had a brilliant spell at Inter Milan but came undone during the latter parts of his career. Although he is also being tracked by a few Serie A clubs and thanks to his Italian passport he seems close to a move to Italy, he still could end up in the Premier League.
According to reports, his agent is based in England and he surely will be trying to sell the player to an English club.
Another young striker linked with the club
Viera isn’t the first and he won’t be the last youngster being linked with a move to Liverpool. The Reds do have a great academy system now and with Jürgen Klopp willing to give more chances to young players, the Uruguayan could be tempted to make a move to the Premier League side.
The Reds already have the likes of Ben Woodburn, Sheyi Ojo and Ovie Ejaria already knocking on the door of the first team and Viera would have to work his socks off if he is to break into the side. It won’t be easy at Liverpool due to the quality they have in their academy as well.
Liverpool are also planning to combine the first team training facilities and that of the academy so that the manager can keep a closer eye on the development of the youth players. Viera would slot into the U16 side before progressing into the U18 and so on.
For now, there isn’t much to speak about the quality of the star but he has already had a trial with Feyenoord, who want to sign him up as quickly as possible. Liverpool should play the waiting game before trying to sign him up.
