Liverpool have set their eyes on winning the Premier League this season. They look like a team armed with the necessary ammunitions in all ramifications to clinch the league title. No doubt, as per their soccer lines they remain one of the top favourites to claim that glory at the end of the season.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are high flying and everything is working out as planned presently. The German has transformed Liverpool to a genuine title contender, an attribute they lacked seasons back. 30 goals in 12 games is not an under achievement and they are just a point below Chelsea in the second position.
His attacking trio of Saido Mane, Roberto Firmino and Phillppe Coutinho are arguably the most entertaining and fearful in the league. They have been instrumental to Liverpool’s foray into the title race as well as keeping them there till this moment.
Despite all that, this is no football fantasy. Premier League is competitive and demanding, and this is why we consider it better for Liverpool to buy in the January transfer window if they are to win the title this season.
Fatigue will set in, injuries is inevitable, suspension may be unavoidable and if there are no back-ups or game changer, how will they fare the title race heat up.
It is paramount for them to get a striker in January. Their attack went blank against Southampton and the repeat of such is inevitable. They had no answer to the Saints solid defence, making it the third match they have been kept at bay this season. Klopp had no one to introduce from the bench to change the game and reluctantly brought on Daniel Sturridge in the 83rd minute.
It is reported Klopp is done with the English striker who has failed to impress him and his exit is imminent, maybe in January. He has been linked with West Ham and Southampton.
Likewise the midfield need a player that can team up with the attack. The absence of Adam Lallana was felt in the Southampton match. The English midfielder picked up an injury during England match against Spain on Tuesday night. Though his replacement Georginio Wijnaldum had some impressive performances, there is need to get a versatile midfielder who also has an eye for goals.
Also the defence should not be left out. Liverpool have leaked too much goals already this season. They have joint most goal conceded , 14, with Man United and Everton and the most in the top four. This was their undoing in the 2013/2014 season and to avoid a repeat of such disappointment Klopp need to the right defender. Joel Matip has been effective but there is still room for improvement. Conceding cheap goals like against Crystal Palace will affect their title and draw them back.
