Philippe Coutinho was not the only player who was injured in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Sunderland at Anfield. The game was a tough one for most of the team and Brazilian teammate Roberto Firmino also picked up a calf injury as he substituted late in the game.

While Coutinho’s injury is expected to be a long layoff for one of the stars of the Premier League, Firmino has done a lot of good work for the second placed team in the competition. The former Hoffenheim man has scored five goals and provided three assists in the league, while also claiming a goal in the EFL Cup.

Guardian, however, suggests that Firmino’s injury is not that serious and he was not booked for a scan after the game. The true extent of his injury will probably come out in a few days but if the Brazilian does miss out on the tie against Bournemouth, it will be a bitter blow for the side.

Injuries piling up for Liverpool

The player expected to replace Firmino in the starting line-up would be Daniel Sturridge but the Englishman was another casualty as he too missed the game against Sunderland. The former Chelsea and Manchester City striker has not scored a Premier League goal this season but Divock Origi did get on the scoresheet against the Black Cats on Saturday.

The English striker was also missing from the training session on Sunday and it seems he is a major doubt for the game away to Bournemouth at the weekend.

Another player who didn’t take part in the win over the last placed side in the Premier League was Adam Lallana. The former Southampton player was injured in the last international break and was missed when he faced his old side a couple of weeks ago.

There is some good news regarding his return from injury as the Guardian reports that Lallana could return to face Bournemouth.

The Reds have lacked a lot of energy in the heart of midfield and Lallana returning to the side would only mean good news as they look to keep the pressure on Chelsea. Liverpool didn’t have it all that easy against the Saints and Sunderland and should expect another tough game at the Vitality as Bournemouth as not the easiest side to play.

Should Lallana and Firmino both start for the team, there is hope that the Reds can continue their great run and put pressure on Chelsea and Manchester City. The Blues and Citizens face each other in the clash of the weekend and Liverpool have to pick up three points as they look to return to the top of the league again.
