Daniel Sturridge has been linked with a move away from Liverpool in the winter transfer window but Jurgen Klopp has come out and stated that no one would be leaving the Merseyside club from the first team squad.
The German manager was speaking ahead of the game against Bournemouth and was asked about the future of a few Liverpool stars at the club. The Reds have played Roberto Firmino as the leading attacker in the side and Sturridge has had to be content with a place on the bench.
Klopp was quoted by the Metro as saying:
“You and your colleagues create stories and then ask me about them.”
‘There is no thought of selling any player from the first team squad.
“I am prepared for all the things you’ll ask me in January.
“It will be funny for sure.”
A testing time for Sturridge
The former Manchester City and Chelsea striker hasn’t played too many games for the Reds. Sturridge has not scored in the Premier League all season and has scored four goals in the EFL Cup. The 27-year-old has failed to impress in the Premier League this season and he had been linked with moves to Stoke City and West Ham United.
Sturridge’s injury concerns remain and the Englishman is a big doubt for the game against Bournemouth at the weekend as well. The Reds have used Divock Origi in his place and the Belgian did score in the 2-0 win over Sunderland in the last Premier League game.
Jurgen Klopp might be thinking of keeping the striker as he would be thin of options in the winter and start of the New Year. The Senegalese forward Sadio Mane would be going for international duty and Philippe Coutinho would probably return from his injury in mid-January.
Sturridge might still have a job to do at Liverpool but he needs to get his act together. Klopp would still provide Sturridge with a few chances to prove himself but unless the Englishman can score a goal or two his career at the Reds will be in doubt.
The Englishman might be one of the best natural finishers in the game but unless he stays fit and plays to his potential in Klopp’s team, there is no point in keeping him. Sturridge could still do a great job for another Premier League club but the German manager would want to move the striker out of the country and not give an advantage to a rival.
