Liverpool manager is willing to spend close to £50 million to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window, reports the Express Sport. The Reds have been looking to add more players in the side for the attack and defence and many reports claim that Jurgen Klopp will be looking to sign Moussa Dembele of Celtic and Virgil van Dijk of Southampton.
The Reds will be without the services of Sadio Mane, who will be away on African Cup of Nations duty, in January and also Philippe Coutinho will not return to the side till January due to injury. Dembele has been great at Celtic under Brendan Rodgers and has scored 15 goals in just 22 games for the Hoops.
The Frenchman might find it a little tough to play in the Premier League but he does have experience of playing in the English system thanks to his time at Fulham. The Sunday Express claims that Dembele could cost the Reds close to £20 million, as Klopp looks to bring in more quality and options for his attack.
The Reds only have Divock Origi as the recognised striker and Daniel Sturridge cannot be trusted to last the entire season with a number of injuries already plaguing this current campaign. Dembele would be a smart signing and one for the future which does fit into the scheme of things at the Merseyside club.
A lot of work needed in defence
The Reds will have to work extra hard in defence, especially after their showing in the 4-3 defeat to Bournemouth. The Reds played Lucas Leiva in place of the injured Joel Matip and it did not work out for them as they struggled to keep the Cherries out.
The Merseyside club have been linked with a move for Virgil van Dijk for a number of weeks and the Dutch defender could be a smart option in January, especially given the links with Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane and Dejan Lovren, who all signed for Liverpool from the south coast club.
Van Dijk could be the rock that Liverpool needs the most if they are to sustain a top four place till the end of the season. They seem to have a brittle defence and their goalkeeping situation isn’t getting any better and Klopp might need to sign another goalkeeper too.
The Reds were poor in the attack too against Bournemouth, despite scoring thrice and Klopp will have to work his magic in the transfer window in the winter as well if Liverpool are to end the season on a high.
