mathias-vecino-fiorentinaLiverpool seems to be the dream destination for another Uruguayan footballer who is growing in stature. Fiorentina’s 25-year-old midfielder, Matias Vecino wants to follow Luis Suarez to Liverpool, even though the striker now turns up for Barcelona and is having a blast at the La Liga club.

The 25-year-old plays in central midfield and can even play in the defensive role. Vecino has made 14 appearances for the Serie A side and has an assist to his name in the Europa League as well.

The Uruguayan midfielder was speaking to Corriere dello Sport and stated that it is his dream to play in England.

“I think I like to do things the right way.

“My dream has always been to play in England, but I don’t know whether I will be here until I am 30 or 35.”

The talented player then revealed that he liked Liverpool but was also willing former teammate Marcos Alonso to Chelsea. The wingback has done pretty well under Antonio Conte and a move to the London club would also serve Vecino extremely well as he looks to progress his career.

“I always liked Liverpool and I would like to follow [Marcos] Alonso and many other team-mates of my national team.”

The midfielder played down the fact that he would be willing to leave as soon as possible.

“It doesn’t mean I will be going to England tomorrow.”

Liverpool need a holding midfielder but is Vecino the man?

Although Jordan Henderson has had a great season for the Reds playing in the deepest role in midfield, he is not a holding midfielder in any sense. Liverpool need to have someone who is a tough tackler but can control the tempo of the game and Vecino is someone who is good at that.

Though the 25-year-old isn’t the most glamorous player in Serie A, he could do a decent job should he join Jurgen Klopp’s side in the Premier League. The Reds do need cover in midfield for Henderson and Vecino could grow into the role under the German manager.

However, Liverpool have been linked with a number of other players for a midfield slot. From Geoffrey Kondogbia to Mahmoud Dahoud, Klopp has his choice and could be looking to sign one of them in the January window.

The Reds are just four points behind Chelsea, who sit pretty on top of the Premier League, and know that they have to continue playing a great brand of football should they stay in the top four. As for Vecino, this quote could be seen as a “come and get me plea” for some sides looking to bolster their midfield.

Liverpool might not sign the midfielder up now but he could be a great signing for some of the other clubs in the Premier League.
