Divock Origi is having a pretty decent time at the top of the Liverpool attack this season. The 21-year-old Belgian might not have expected to feature this regularly for the Reds but injuries to Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge have kept the former Lille man in the starting XI.
Origi already has five goals to his name this season and scored in the last game for the Merseyside club, even though the Reds did lose out 4-3 against Bournemouth.
There were many who believed the Belgian international could not score or cut it in the Premier League but three goals in three games proved them wrong. There could be another reason why Origi has been doing this well and that can be attributed to the change in coaching staff for the national team.
Roberto Martinez became the head coach of the Belgian side and Thierry Henry; the Arsenal legend joined him in the management room. Speaking to the Liverpool FC website, the 21-year-old spoke of the influence Henry has had on him.
“[He’s a] very big personality; you can see why he’s a legend and a big name in the football world.
“He has a very high level of intelligence of football and especially for strikers.
“He tries to help me a lot; trying to optimise my qualities and use them in an efficient way.
“So these are all positive things and I’m very happy he’s with the national team.”
A great chance for Origi to keep his place
The Belgian has got a great chance of keeping his place in the Liverpool XI. He has been playing quite well in the Liverpool team at the moment and is probably the best out and out striker the Reds have.
Roberto Firmino isn’t a striker per-say but the Brazilian has been doing a great job for the Merseyside club. There are many who will claim that Sturridge is the best striker that the Reds have but he is probably their best finisher and not a player that suits Jurgen Klopp’s pressing style of football.
Origi is a hard worker and is willing to run the channels, unlike Sturridge. The former Lille man has also turned his career around after a poor season at Lille before joining the Reds. Liverpool will be facing a tough West Ham outfit on Sunday and the fans would want to see three points bagged by the side after the disappointment of Bournemouth.
Liverpool need to keep performing at their best if they are to keep pace with Chelsea and if Origi plays to his potential, at least goals are guaranteed from the game.
