Liverpool are interested in raiding Italy as they look to add more quality in their midfield. The Reds have targeted Franck Kessie from Atalanta and many outlets are claiming that the Merseyside club is ready to bid €22m for the talented midfielder.
Kessie is a 19-year-old Ivorian and has been on the radar for a number of clubs in the Italian Serie A. The outlet Corriere dello Sport states that the English club had sent members to scout the youngster during Atalanta’s 2-1 win over AS Roma in the month of November.
Kessie did rather very well in the game as he lasted the entire game and even scored a crucial goal for his side. Apart from the bid, the outlet also believes that the Reds are willing to pay Kessie with €2.5m per season, which would be greater than what he earns in the Serie A.
Interest from the Italian champions
The Reds aren’t the only ones interested in signing Kessie, there is a lot of interest from Juventus as well and that will be tough to battle. The Old Lady has a habit of signing talented stars and Kessie would certainly fit the bill at Turin.
They also have a history of bringing in talented players on a free and if the Ivorian does move to the club, he will be guaranteed a title with the Bianconeri. Liverpool wouldn’t be a bad move for him either and he will have to fight it out with a lot of academy graduates if he is to get a chance to play for the Reds on a regular basis.
Kessie broke into the limelight as he has scored five goals and provided one assist in 13 league games for Atalanta. They club are surprisingly sixth in the standings and that has been partly due to the form and ability of Kessie.
Do Liverpool need someone so young and still learning? That is tough to answer as they already have a lot of quality in the heart of the park. The Reds already have the likes of Cameron Brannagan and Kevin Stewart who are looking to make it into the first team while the likes of Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana are the players chosen to start for the Reds.
For the amount being quoted for Kessie, it doesn’t really make sense as they could get a better talent form Germany, a league which Klopp has already plundered in signing Joel Matip and Loris Karius. The German does need quality at the moment but he does not need to bring in Kessie at the moment.
