Liverpool were once again bogged down in their Premier League game thanks to a couple of goalkeeping howlers. After last weekend’s 4-3 loss at the hands of Bournemouth, there was a lot of support from the manager for Loris Karius.
The German keeper was at fault for a couple of goals in the loss at the Vitality and was the victim for both the goals in the 2-2 draw against West Ham as well. Even though the Reds took the lead early on, Dimitri Payet scored from a free-kick, which should have been saved but Karius’ position was too close to the left-hand post.
The second goal conceded was even worse as the ball was flicked on by Jordan Henderson and Karius did come out but then stopped. This allow Michail Antonio to sneak the ball past the former Mainz keeper and that set the tone for the rest of the game.
Even though Karius didn’t have anything else to do in the game, his performance didn’t bode well for him. Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher both criticised his performance and Jurgen Klopp came out to defend his goalkeeper once again.
Twitter though was just as hard on the 23-year-old goalkeeper and many users had a real go at the former Mainz keeper.
“That pagan Neville tried talk crud about my bredrin Karius, i had to put that wasteman in his place. Gimme a cigarette fam.” #RoadmanKlopp pic.twitter.com/cxnuJOGssf

Players often derided for dull interviews. Loris Karius speaks mind. Ex-playerrs, now paid as media pundits, tell him to keep quiet. #LFC

Loris Karius has conceded 6 goals from the last 9 shots on target he’s faced in the Premier League.

Bruce Grobbelaar says that Mignolet and Karius are not to be blamed, but their coach, John Achterberg should be. #LFC pic.twitter.com/1NTsrmjpBb

In all fairness, Karius doesn’t just go from Bundesliga Team of the Season to what he is now, obvious who’s to blame and who’s not.

Say what you like about Karius, but he hasn’t kicked a goal kick out for a corner today and that my friends, is progress.
