Liverpool’s search for a quality attacker in the winter seems to be heading to Russia. The Premier League club were in the running to sign Julian Draxler but the German chose Paris Saint-Germain and the Reds will shift their focus to Quincy Promes again.
The 24-year-old winger has been great for Spartak Moscow this season and has six goals and six assists for the side and the Daily Mirror claims Jurgen Klopp is looking to step up to their interest.
The Reds already have Georginio Wijnaldum, another Dutchman, and they do need someone to replace Sadio Mane. The Senegal attacker will be joining the national side for the African Cup of Nations in the month of January and Klopp needs to find someone of a similar stature to join the club fast.
Promes is a talented winger and it is no surprise that some of the other clubs are looking to sign him now. His price-tag isn’t the highest either with the Spartak general director Sergey Rodionov stating last week that the 24-year-old player has a release clause of £20m (via the same report by Mirror). That price is peanuts for a Premier League side and there will be a number of teams looking to sign Promes up in the winter window.
Liverpool’s attack needs more players
Injuries have been a major problem for the Reds this season, especially in their forward line. Danny Ings was already ruled out for the season after picking up a major injury while Daniel Sturridge has consistently been on the treatment table and has only recovered completely from his injuries.
Philippe Coutinho also picked up a major injury but should return come the start of the New Year. Even Adam Lallana had picked up a knock recently and he too only made it back to the team in the past few weeks.
The Reds don’t really have a lot of cover for their attacker and the need to bring quality in for a decent sum is high on the agenda for Klopp. The German was interested in signing Christian Pulisic as well but the Borussia Dortmund youngster could be a target that doesn’t come before the start of next season.
Klopp had recently stated that the Reds will only try to sign players who want to star for the club and aren’t looking to make a lot of money. That policy has worked out alright for the Merseyside club this season but if they are to continue their charge for a top-four finish, the German has to bring in a few signings as soon as possible.
Promes might just be the start of another busy transfer window for the Reds and only time will tell which other players will be signed by the Liverpool manager.
