Christian Pulisic

Liverpool’s chase to sign Christian Pulisic seems to be fading away with each day the transfer window comes closer. While the board of Borussia Dortmund have clearly stated that the player will not move in the winter window, the American star has also now stated that he is pleased with his current club.

Speaking to the fans via a Facebook Live chat (h/t Daily Mail), the 18-year-old said:

“I think with soccer, you never really know what’s going to happen in your career — that’s the beauty of it.”

“But right now, I’m with Dortmund and very happy. I’m earning my spot and working hard for that team.”

The first half of his statement does give a bit of a hint that he might be on the move later but for now he is more than happy playing for Thomas Tuchel. Dortmund are 12 points behind leaders Bayern Munich and lie in sixth place in the Bundesliga table.

The team has struggled for consistency this season but Pulisic has been a star in his own right. The American star has scored four goals in 30 appearances for the German side this season and has been their standout player along with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Klopp needs to search for a new target

The quote will come as a big blow to Klopp but truth be told, the German manager should have been targeting a few other players also. Pulisic is one of the rising stars in the Bundesliga and Dortmund would not let him go without a fight.

The Reds have been linked with a number of other stars from the Bundesliga but it will be tough to pry any one of these players away in the winter window. With prices inflated and cup tied players, though this does not involve Liverpool, the choice of attractive talent is limited.

Klopp had also stated that he would only be looking to sign those players who are willing to come to the Reds and make an impact, not looking for those who are trying to make a fast buck. The Reds are an attractive unit at the moment as they sit second in the Premier League and have the best attack in their division.

Pulisic was seen as an ideal replacement for Sadio Mane, who would be out of action for a few weeks thanks to the African Cup of Nations. With the Senegal attacker leaving, Liverpool have a huge void to fill but they still have time to get their targets for the winter window.
