Anfield Update – Jurgen Klopp Terms Liverpool’s Proposed Move For Arsenal Star As “Nonsense”, Lucas Deal To Be Completed Soon

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had stated that he would be looking to add more attack minded players in the January window. The Reds will be without Sadio Mane as the Senegalese international will be away on African Cup of Nations duty and the Merseyside have been linked with a number of attacking players.

The Reds were recently linked with a move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain of Arsenal and the Guardian even reported that Jurgen Klopp wants to sign the former Southampton attacker. The Englishman has only 18 months left on his contract but the German manager poured cold water over this rumour.

Speaking to reporters, Klopp stated:

“Usually I don’t say anything about transfer rumours, but I can make an exception. This is nonsense.”

This deal certainly seems to be a bit tricky to digest. Liverpool and Arsenal are not on the best of terms after the Gunners tried to sign Luis Suarez a few years ago with a ludicrous bid of £40 million and £1.

While Liverpool did ridicule the bid, even John Henry tweeted about it, the future of Oxlade-Chamberlain might not be at Arsenal. The youngster has failed to make an impact in the side and has only played 90 minutes of football this season. Though the 23-year-old has scored six goals in all competitions this season, he has mostly been used as a substitute.

Liverpool do need to bring in a quality attacker and the Englishman does have a lot of talent. The only issue with him has been his application on the field and decision making. Oxlade-Chamberlain has the pace and ability to trouble many defences but his final delivery is a problem.

The Guardian report also suggests that £25 million would be enough to bring the 23-year-old to another club and the likes of Manchester City, Southampton and Leicester City are interesting in signing the player up.

Lucas deal to Inter almost complete

While the Reds still look for a player to bolster their attack, they are set to loan out the Brazilian as he looks to gain some playing time for Inter Milan. The Daily Mail has reported that the 29-year-old has now been allowed to complete terms with the Serie A side and the deal should be completed pretty soon.

The former Gremio man hasn’t been played all that much this season and has been used as a central defender. Inter have been looking to add a defensive midfielder in their side and could even be looking to sign the Brazilian up after the six-month deal.

What is surprising is that Klopp had stated that he would not be selling or letting any player leave from the first team. This could mean that Liverpool are planning to sign a player in the winter window to add more strength to the side.
