Liverpool ended 2016 on a high as they defeated Manchester City to finish the calendar year second behind Chelsea. The Reds got the goal really early on as a floated cross by Adam Lallana was headed in by Georginio Wijnaldum.
However, it was Manchester City that did a lot of the running but they couldn’t carve the home side open. Jurgen Klopp had a 50% winning rate against Pep Guardiola during their time in Germany and the Liverpool manager made a winning start to the rivalry again.
There were a lot of boos for Raheem Sterling too but he was marshalled really well by James Milner. Even though the Reds did not play their brand of crazy attacking football they should be content with the performance and hopefully they can continue the same kind of performance in 2017 as they start the year with a trip to the Stadium of Light.
For now the Reds can enjoy their win but Sunderland are not easy to take on.
