Italian Reports Claim That A Deal For This Liverpool Star Is Almost Complete

Liverpool might have lost ground on their chase for the Premier League title with a 2-2 draw against Sunderland but reports suggest that the Reds will also allow Lucas Leiva to join Inter Milan on loan.

The Brazilian had been linked with a move to the Serie A side for a while now and it seems he will be moving on loan to the Italian club in the winter window. The Italian outlet Tutto Mercato claim that talks are in an advanced stage and should be complete soon, but Inter could also be looking to bring in Luis Gustavo.

Lucas

Sky Italia had also reported that a medical had been complete for Lucas and the deal to sign him on loan would also have a clause that gave Inter the chance to sign him permanently at the end of the season.

This might be in stark contrast to the fact that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had stated that he would not be letting any first team player leave at the moment but Lucas has not been able to hold down a spot regularly for the side.

The Brazilian has struggled to nail down a place and has instead been used as a central defender, which has seen him get caught out a number of times. Lucas had earlier rejected a big money move to join a Turkish side and this could be a way for Klopp to repay the faith that Lucas had shown the club.

The 29-year-old stayed at the club as the Reds didn’t really have a lot of quality players in his role but with his performances going south and youngsters like Kevin Stewart looking to make a name, the Brazilian could do with more regular football.

Inter might not be the mighty club they once were in the 90s but they still could do with the signing. The slower pace of the Serie A will certainly be a bonus for the Brazilian and he could rejuvenate his career in Italy.

Lucas has played 13 games this season but seven of them have been substitute appearances. He hasn’t been played regularly in his favoured central midfield spot and has had to do with a place on the bench.

Liverpool do need to bring in quality into the side and the 2-2 draw was another example of the side letting go of a lead. Lucas cannot be solely blamed for this but it shows that the Reds do not have enough experience in the side and letting the Brazilian go this easily might not be the best thing to do.
