Liverpool Set To Hold Off On Signing £25m Promising Winger

Quincy Promes will not be coming to Liverpool it seems. The Echo – a few weeks back – reported that the Dutch winger had been linked with a move to Anfield right from the start of the winter window and it was reported that Jurgen Klopp was going to fight tooth and nail to bring the winger to the Reds.

But the Daily Mail now reports that the Reds don’t want to move for the 25-year-old and that Klopp has no plans to sign the Dutch international for the time being. This is completely contradictory to the reports shared earlier and now it does seem that Liverpool will have a tough time to find the right Sadio Mane replacement in the winter window.

There could be various reasons why the deal might not be taking place now, one could be the fact that Spartak Moscow owner Leonid Fedun also added that the winger would not be going for anything less than €40m-50m, which is way above the initial the amount Liverpool wanted to spend.

The German has time and again stated that he would only sign players who wants come to Liverpool and would not be paying over the odds in any transfer window.

Return of Coutinho plays a part in this decision?

Another reason why Klopp might be delaying a move for an attacker is the fact that Philippe Coutinho is back in the team. Klopp had suggested that the Brazilian would feature in the EFL Cup game against Southampton, even if he does not start the game.

Coutinho could also feature in the highly anticipated clash against Manchester United on Sunday and Klopp could be waiting to see just how the former Inter Milan star does in his cameo roles.

The lack of playing in the Premier League could have been another reason why Klopp could be looking at other options than Promes. Although the Dutchman has had a great time in Russia, playing in the Premier League is a different test altogether.

Klopp would not be willing to spend a lot of money on a player that isn’t accustomed to the quality and style of the league. The Reds have been pretty decent in terms of transfers under the German manager and he too would always be looking for a player that makes an instant impact.

Whoever would come to the side in the winter window would not have a lot of time to adjust and get used to life in the Premier League. This probably is the major reason why Klopp might be thinking again before making a serious bid for Promes in the January window.

Promes could still be a signing in the summer when Klopp has a proper preseason to work with, but for now, this deal is a no go.
