Liverpool could be given a double boost ahead of their clash against Manchester United on Sunday. Two of their star players from the season, Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip are set to return to full training as the side regroup before they take on the Red Devils.

It is no surprise that the Merseyside club have struggled to get the wins as they have none in 2017. Jordan Henderson was taken off as a precaution in the game against Manchester City.

Henderson was sorely missed in the draws against Sunderland and Plymouth before the loss at the hands of Southampton in the first leg of the semi-final of the EFL Cup. The players flew back to Melwood after the game and have to work really hard if they are to beat Manchester United.

The Red Devils are on fire at the moment and will be the favourites for the clash but Henderson could be back for the game. According to the Liverpool Echo, should there be no more adverse reactions to Henderson during training, the Liverpool captain will be playing at Old Trafford.

Matip’s return will be timely as well

While Henderson’s return will be great for the Reds, they could do with some shoring up in the defence as well. Joel Matip has not played for the side since the 2-2 draw against West Ham and has missed seven games since.

The Cameroon star has been nursing an ankle injury and while Klopp suggested it wasn’t anything grave, it does beg the question, when will Matip return to the side for good? The injury didn’t require any surgery, which was a good thing for the player but him returning to training is one small step to first team action.

Matip might want to play against the old enemy at Old Trafford but Klopp could decide not risking him as it would be his first game back from injury. The former Schalke man was the best defender that Liverpool had for most of the season and him coming back into the side will only mean good news.

Manchester United will not be easy to face at Old Trafford and the return of Philippe Coutinho, even on for a cameo role, could be great for the Reds. Liverpool need to keep the pressure on Chelsea and a positive result against United will go a long way if the Reds want to end the season in a top four position at least.
