Liverpool’s search for a quality left-back could be stretched to the summer according to the Daily Mirror. The Reds have been linked with a move for the Schalke defender Sead Kolasinac but the report claims that Liverpool cannot sign the Bundesliga player in this window.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Anfield since the start of the season and with Jurgen Klopp looking to keep the Reds playing well, he would have wanted to wrap up this deal really quickly.

Kolasinac has been linked with moves to Arsenal and Juventus too but with Klopp’s knowledge of the Bundesliga, it could have worked out for the German manager. However, it seems that the defender can only move at the end of the season and that would put Liverpool in a bit of a problem.

Schalke director of football Christian Heidl told Fanta Gazzetta:

“Nothing changed from some days ago. Sead is still on a deal with us, there’s nothing more to say about it.”

The director also categorically stated that Sead would not be moving before the end of the current season and also added that no one from his team had spoken to the Italian champions Juventus.

“We want to keep him with us, he’s not going anywhere else before June.

“I never talked to Juventus. I don’t know whether they got in touch with the player or not, our mindset, however, is quite clear.”

James Milner has been playing as the left-back for the Reds this season but even the former Manchester City man needs a bit of a break and with January featuring a tough round of games for the Reds, they would have wanted some quality cover for Milner.

Alberto Moreno hasn’t been at the best and isn’t seen as a safe player for the position any more by Klopp. This does put the side in a bit of a conundrum as the Reds have struggled in the past few weeks.

Milner has done a great job so far but he should not be seen as the left-back for the next season by Klopp.
