Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho has been on the radar of a number of top clubs recently and the Brazilian has been linked with a move to Barcelona by a number of players and pundits.
The Catalan club had signed Luis Suarez a few years ago from Liverpool and Coutinho’s form for the Merseyside club has seen him become a top player. The former Inter Milan man has been courted by ex-Barca man Xavi and now a current Barcelona player has spoken out about a move for the 24-year-old.
Gerard Pique was taking part in a live Facebook session and was asked if he would want to see Coutinho at the La Liga side.
“That’s Robert Fernandez’s area, as sporting director, but obviously if the best players come [to Barca] we receive them with our arms open,” the defender said during a question and answer session on the social networking site.
“But it’s other people who are in charge of the needs of the team, not me.”
It hasn’t just been Pique who has spoken about the move for the Brazilian as former Barcelona player and Brazilian legend Rivaldo also stated that the club always wants to sign the best players in the world and Coutinho is certainly one of the best from Brazil at the moment.
Is Spain Coutinho’s new home?
It hasn’t just been Barcelona who have been trying to woo the Liverpool star to Spain as Real Madrid have also done their bit. Ronaldo, the former Brazilian striker, also wants Coutinho to move to Real.
Barcelona do have the added advantage of having Neymar on their side. Coutinho and Neymar have been friends since the youth team of Brazil and have also played for the national side a number of times.
For now, Coutinho is still a Liverpool player and will be looking to provide the Reds with the attacking verve that has been missing in the New Year. Liverpool are third in the Premier League before the weekend’s round of matches and without Sadio Mane, Coutinho has to star for the Reds.
He did start in the 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle recently and even helped create the only goal of the game, but he failed to produce some Samba magic against Swansea at Anfield.
