Liverpool’s Lazar Markovic isn’t wanted by Sporting Lisbon anymore and his season-long loan deal could be cancelled soon after a poor showing for the Portuguese side. The 22-year-old hasn’t been able to deliver the goods at the club and is set to return to England soon.

However, Liverpool Echo reports that the Serbian winger will not be returning to his parent club but will be looking to join Hull City on loan until the end of the season. The former Benfica man was not able to impress Jurgen Klopp in pre-season and was shipped out to gain some experience at Lisbon but things have not worked out for him.

It is also being reported that Klopp is more than willing to let the Serbian winger leave on loan until the end of the season.

The Echo also reports that all three parties involved in the deal will have to agree to the Sporting loan being cancelled. While the Portuguese side wanting to get rid of the player who has started just two league games all season, Liverpool wants to secure a deal before the Serbian is back at Anfield and that could be thehold-upp.

A poor buy from Liverpool?

The former Benfica man was one of the more expensive signings during recent years by the Reds and had cost £20million when he joined the Merseyside club in the 2014 season.

The Serbian did make 34 appearances for the Premier League side in the 2014-15 season and also scored three goals but that was not enough for him to keep his place in the team and he was loaned out to Fenerbahce in the Turkish league.

His time with Fenerbahce was hampered with a number of injuries and he couldn’t really do much to stake a claim in the Liverpool team once he returned. Sporting was supposed to be another chance for him to reignite his career under his former manager Jorge Jesus but even that has not worked out for the young winger.

This is just another example to show that signing expensive players does not always work out for a team and that proper scouting has to be done. Markovic was one of the most exciting players to come out form Benfica and a number of clubs were looking to sign him, which included Juventus.

Jurgen Klopp has already shipped out the likes of Mario Balotelli and it seems that Lazar Markovic is another former Rodgers player that just was not able to impress the manager enough.
