Liverpool’s hopes of selling Mamadou Sakho before the end of this window seems to have come to an end and the club would be looking to send out the Frenchman out on loan. The 26-year-old defender has not played for the side this season and doesn’t have any chance of making it back to Jurgen Klopp’s first team.

The Premier League club wanted close to £20 million for the former Paris Saint-Germain man but no club is willing to meet that amount. The Reds would look to offload the defender on a loan deal at least and the likes of Crystal Palace and Southampton lead the race for the defender.

There were a number of other clubs in the running for the signature of Sakho with Sevilla, AC Milan, Spartak Moscow, Inter Milan and even Lille and PSG looking to take the defender back but it seems Sakho wants to remain in England at the moment.

However, the latest news from the Mirror reports that the defender was spotted in London.

Sakho does have a contract till 2020 and the Merseyside club will be upset that the defender can only leave for six months before he returns to the side. Should Sakho do well at his new club, he could fetch more when he is sold at the start of next season.

The problem for Sakho started when he turned up late for a practice session or two and the defender sheds light on this issue.

He was speaking in an interview with Canal Football Club (via Sky Sports) and shared what transpired between Klopp and himself.

“It is true that I turned up late. There was a rule that I should have observed. I do not at all see myself as above the rules, I respect everyone,” he explained.

“I paid my fine, I was sanctioned, I apologised to my team-mates and my manager. Aside from that…I do not want to go into the controversies.

“I work a lot, I have the chance to train with the reserve team, which allows me to keep up. And beside that I have my trainer. So I work a lot to stay on top of my game.”

Sakho was one of the better defenders at the club and his absence certainly has affected the side. Klopp has stuck to his guns by not playing the defender even once and it isn’t a surprise that the Frenchman wants a move away from Anfield.

The PSG defender had signed for a fee of £18 million and he did have a similar issue during the final few months of his stay at the Ligue 1 club.
