Tony Cascarino: Jurgen Klopp’s Transfer Decision Could Cost Liverpool Once Again

Liverpool’s dismal 2017 continued as they lost once again to a lower placed club in the Premier League. A 2-0 loss at the KCOM Stadium inflicted by Hull City saw them drop out of the top four in the league table and also sent Chelsea 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The title now seems all but gone for the Reds and even a top four finish does seem to be a little difficult should they continue in the same form for the rest of the season. The Reds failed to add players to their said in the winter window and that certainly has come back to haunt them but the goalkeeping area is the major issue that Klopp should have addressed according to Tony Cascarino.

Cascarino stated that Joe Hart could have been a decent option for the Merseyside club in the January window and that has really cost them this season.

“The top clubs don’t seem to like using the loan market,” Cascarino told The Times.

“Jurgen Klopp clearly isn’t happy with his two goalkeepers — Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet have struggled at different times this season.

“He didn’t take Joe Hart on loan when he had the chance and he failed to act in January too. It could cost Liverpool.”

Cascarino also spoke out about the Sergio Aguero situation and added that the Argentine would be a great addition to the side especially since the former Atletico Madrid striker has fallen behind Gabriel Jesus at the Etihad.

“The Sergio Aguero situation seems like a moment for the vultures.

“He’s 29 this summer, clearly open to a move and City are planning a future with Gabriel Jesus. Manchester United pinched Robin van Persie at 29 and won the title that season. Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool should all bid for Aguero.”

Would a double swoop be possible for Liverpool?

Klopp would certainly have to work extra hard next season as the Reds have really faltered in the second half of this campaign. Simon Mignolet was at fault, again, for the first goal conceded against Hull City, while Loris Karius still needs more experience under his belt to constantly put in great performances for the Merseyside club.

Hart might have a lot of experience but he is a little too old for the team now, while Aguero might be a great striker but fitting into the Klopp team isn’t easy given the work rate the forward has to do.

Manchester City would also not want to sell to another Premier League rival and will surely look to out price the Reds or any other club looking to sign Hart and Aguero.

The German manager will have to revamp the squad again and should he get his signings right, they should play in the same style at the start of this season.
