Reports have emerged that Liverpool are in advanced talks with Adam Lallana over a new long-term contract worth £150,000 a week. Lallana has been in fine form for Liverpool this season and bagged England’s Player of the year award for 2016. With this, Lallana has now joined the Elite list of players like Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, David Beckham, Ashley Cole and Owen Hargreaves who have previously won the honour.

With Lallana in the peak of his powers, it appears Liverpool are making the right move to offer him a new contract. Lallana is looking extremely motivated to be Klopp’s main man, which is quite evident from his consistent performances in recent times.

Lallana has just over two years left on his current contract with Liverpool and talks are on to make him sign a new contract running till 2021. The player has even hinted that he is willing to finish his career at the Merseyside club, which only highlights his commitment. However, the fans have voiced their opinions out saying £150,000 per week is a bit excessive, considering the fact that he is 28 years old. While age truly is a huge factor, it is safe to ensure the club hold on to the England Player of the Year without too much fuss, if Klopp feels Lallana is important for his plans.

Philippe Coutinho was the last Liverpool biggie to have signed a new contract with the club and Lallana might very well follow suit with an impressive offer waiting on the table.

Further, it appears that Jurgen Klopp has given the green light for the board to negotiate a contract extension with other players who he believes will play vital roles in his plans for the future. So, this means Liverpool could start negotiating contracts with other important members of the squad, once Adam Lallana signs his new contract.

It also looks like Liverpool are in for a busy summer, with a lot of talented youngsters being linked to Anfield, the latest being Julian Brandt of Bayer Leverkusen and Christian Pulisic of Borussia Dortmund. So it is clear that Liverpool are trying to make progress off the pitch as well, as much as on the pitch progress that is usually expected of a team where a new manager has taken over.

Although Klopp’s Liverpool have shown brilliance, it has only been in patches and not on a consistent basis. It is high time Klopp fixes things as quickly as possible before time runs out at the Anfield dugout.
