Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has a lot of work on his hands in the summer as he looks to bring in a few players to strengthen his team. The German has been linked with a move for a number of Bundesliga stars but he seems to be going to Ligue 1 and Portugal for a left-back.

While Jonas Hector and Sead Kolasinac have been two Bundesliga stars targeted by the club according to reports, the German has now set his eyes for Porto’s Ricardo Pereira.

The 23-year-old is actually on loan at high-flying Nice and the defender has been scouted and watched by the Reds for a few months now. The Daily Star claims that £22 million would be enough to sign the Portuguese defender from his parent club, Porto.

Klopp hasn’t been pleased with the left-back situation at the club and has lost confidence in the erratic Alberto Moreno. The signing from Sevilla has barely featured for the Reds this season and has been replaced by James Milner in that position.

The former Manchester City midfielder has done pretty well in a position that he isn’t the most comfortable with but he hasn’t complained and the Reds have somehow survived by playing him in this position.

Klopp knows he has a lot of work to do and it starts from the back as even the Reds are looking to bring in a new goalkeeper seeing that Simon Mignolet has done poorly in the recent games against Hull City and Chelsea.

Signing Pereira would not be easy for Liverpool as a number of clubs are after the signature of the 23-year-old and even Inter Milan are interested in bringing him over to the San Siro.

The Reds know that they have to move fast in the summer if they are to sign the defender up and he has been impressive in Ligue 1 for Nice. The Portugal star has scored once this season and has also provided three assists in the league campaign for Nice.

Pereira can also play on the right side of defence and has even played games at the right-wing position this season which should provide some idea that he can play in an attack-minded Klopp side but the first thing that he has to ensure if that the Reds can bank on him while defending.

The Reds have a number of plans set for next season but Pereira might not be the player that solves their left-back issues as the links from Germany seem to be stronger, at the moment.
