Liverpool’s next game is against Premier League champions Leicester City and even though the Reds have had a couple of weeks off thanks to their exit from the FA Cup in an earlier round, the Merseyside club will not be at full strength.
Jurgen Klopp’s team did defeat Tottenham Hotspur in their last game in the Premier League but played without Dejan Lovren. The Croatian had missed the last two games for the Merseyside club and seems to be a doubt for this fixture against the Foxes at the King Power Stadium.
Reports suggest that the former Southampton defender is seeing a specialist in Germany as his knee injury has kept him out of a number of games this season.
The Reds did keep a clean sheet in their last game against Spurs but it was Lucas Leiva who did extremely well at the back. The Brazilian isn’t comfortable playing in that position but has deputised a lot this season and could be starting for Liverpool against the Foxes. Liverpool do have options to call should Lovren not make it to the King Power as Ragnar Klavan had done well in a few games.
While the Reds will be looking to win their second Premier League game of 2017, Leicester City will need points if they are to survive in the league. The champions are struggling to perform and could find themselves in the relegation zone should results not work out in their favour.
Claudio Ranieri knows that a win is important for Leicester to stay afloat and playing against a Liverpool side that is extremely inconsistent.
Liverpool need the points to continue their charge for a top four place and a win should serve them well before they face Arsenal in an important clash at Anfield. Leicester could turn out to be a bogey team but the Reds did dispatch them rather easily in the reverse fixture at Anfield at the start of the season.
The Merseyside club will have the likes of Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino in their squad and the trio could certainly cause a lot of problems to a Leicester defence that has been struggling all season.
