Jurgen Klopp revealed the latest updates on players recovering from their injuries. Liverpool’s injury problems have eased in recent times and almost everyone is back fit, except Danny Ings, who the boss expects to be out for the season. Ings suffered a knee injury against Spurs back in October and hasn’t featured since then. Klopp, however, assured that the player has been making progress and they are targeting a return for the pre-season preparations in the summer of 2017.
Meanwhile, Dejan Lovren has recovered from his knee injury and will be available soon. The defender suffered a knee injury and is back in full training after flying to Germany to fix the pain he experienced in his leg. However, he is now back and will be available against Arsenal as he might be just short for the Leicester trip. Klopp revealed:
“Unfortunately not all of the players could join us [in La Manga]. Daniel tried to but unfortunately, we had to send him home because of a virus infection. He will probably come in today for the first time, [he needed] a few days. Dejan Lovren could not join us, but he trained today, he was running today – it was possible and he felt good. He could now do a few more steps in the right direction so that’s good.”
When asked to elaborate on Lovren’s injury,
He said: “If it would have been completely simple it would not have taken this long time. Before the Chelsea game he was struggling a little bit, but then when he was warming up it was getting better so he could play – and played really well.”
“After the game, the pain was too big for him, so we gave him a little rest with treatment and made some diagnosis. In the end we could not find the 100 per cent clue, so we sent him to a specialist who found a few things, not directly in the knee where he had the pain.”
“The knee is fine, but the pain was there. They sorted these things around [it] and I spoke to him five minutes ago and he [told me] he felt really well when he was running outside and so now he should be able to train tomorrow. He will be very, very close – tight – for the Leicester game, but having him back in training is of course good for us.”
Klopp also admitted that Wijnaldum suffered a calf strain while training, but is now back fit and will have no problems playing against Leicester City.
“He has had some little problems in training this week, he got a real knock on his calf but it should be no problem,” said the boss. “Yesterday he could run and today he could train, so that’s important.”
He also spoke about Danny Ings’ recovery from injury and said that they are targeting a return for pre-season preparation next season.
“Danny is not fit. He’s in a good way but it will take time. I don’t think there is any chance for this season. We are looking at pre-season.” said the manager.
It looks like Liverpool’s injury woes are over and Klopp will have the full bunch of players to choose from for the remainder of the season. With Lovren fully fit and all set to be involved against Arsenal, Liverpool’s defensive problems must ease a little bit and gain some stability.
However, the focus will now be on the game against Leicester and coming out of the game unscathed.
