The 3-1 defeat against Leicester City has left Liverpool facing the prospect of yet another season without Champions League football. Even though the club remains only one point behind Arsenal in the top four places, the gunners could potentially increase this advantage to 4 points with a victory from the game in hand. Furthermore, Liverpool are also under threat of being overtaken by Manchester United. The club have been so incensed by the recent run of form that manager Jurgen Klopp is set to be handed a transfer kitty to go after players like Naby Keita and Alexandre Lacazette.
There have been plenty of rumours surrounding Alexandre Lacazette for several years. The Lyon youth academy product has firmly established himself as one of the top centre forwards in French football. However, he has been unable to get much recognition in the French national football team courtesy of playing for a club which does not belong to the elite status. He is very much expected to leave Lyon in the summer with the club reportedly looking for around £40 million in transfer fees for the player. Lacazette has been in splendid form this season. He has been a major factor behind Lyon challenging for the French league title. Lacazette has scored 22 goals in 22 appearances this season.
Lyon would rather sell him in the summer considering that it is looking highly unlikely that the 25-year-old will extend his contract, which runs until the summer of 2019.
Naby Keita is another player who is reportedly on the verge of a move to one of the major European clubs. A central midfielder by trade, Keita plays for RB Leipzig, who have been a sensational story in the Bundesliga this season. They have been the unlikely challengers for Bayern Munich in the race for the Bundesliga title.
The lack of significant squad depth has been cited as one of the reasons for manager Jurgen Klopp unable to change the team even when he is aware of the players going through a poor run of form. Furthermore, players at the tail end of their careers like Lucas could be sold in the summer. The club have already been linked with a move for Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon, who is being lined up as the replacement for James Milner.
It is reported that Jurgen Klopp is not looking at Keita and Alexandre Lacazette alone. Liverpool are set to go full tilt in the summer transfer window with up to 5 or six players expected to arrive at Anfield, according to The Mirror.
