Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is reportedly being watched by Everton, according to Daily Mail. Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool are also believed to be in the market to buy a goalkeeper and Jordan Pickford is one of their targets. Liverpool were linked with Pickford back in Dec’2016.

Southgate was at Goodison Park last week to watch the 22-year-old play on his return from a two-month knee injury.

Pickford was included in England’s senior squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia in October after Burnley No 1 Tom Heaton withdrew with a minor injury.

Pickford has made strides this season, despite his injuries. He has performed well when given a chance and has impressed everyone alike.

Back in October, David Moyes gave glowing reports about the player.

He was quoted by DailyMail,

“He can be England’s No 1. I remember Joe Hart at Shrewsbury and was recommended to sign him when I was Everton boss. I knew about Jack Butland when he was young as well. Jordan is definitely in that. Some don’t always progress, but Jordan has every chance — and it’s a huge help that he’s playing in the first team here.”

Receiving such compliments from a renowned coach like David Moyes is not easy. Pickford is rated highly by many and even Liverpool’s former goalkeeper Chris Kirkland recommended Pickford to Anfield as well.

Buying Pickford might be a good move from Liverpool.
Buying Pickford might be a good move from Liverpool.

Kirkland spoke about Pickford in December last year and said that the player will be chased by top clubs at the end of the season.

The Ex-Reds keeper told BT Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“I told Liverpool to sign him last summer. He will have all of the top clubs looking at him – not just in England, but in Europe as well. He definitely won’t be there (at Sunderland) next summer. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is not there come January.”

Kirkland added: “For me, he could be one of the best in the world – he is the best I have worked with, that’s for sure. He would make saves like that all of the time at Preston. I think he has made the second most saves in the Premier League this season.”

Surely, the Sunderland man will be picked up by one of the big clubs in England and it would be worth it if Liverpool decide to take a chance on the youngster.

With Mignolet and Karius failing to impress Jurgen Klopp so far, buying a new goalkeeper and letting go of Mignolet might be a gamble worth taking. Pickford is young, and he is English. He seems like the next big thing in English football and the odds are high that he will be successful.

Will Klopp go for Jordan Pickford?
