Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had recently stated that the club will go all out to ensure they bring in the talent that they need. The German had added that the club needs close to six players in the upcoming summer transfer window as he looks to build upon a season that promised so much but is petering out rather quickly.

While qualifying for the Champions League does seem to be a legitimate target for this season, Klopp knows he has to add quality to the side. The Reds did lose ground at the start of January as they struggled to deal with the absence of Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho’s injury-forced absence.

The lack of wins saw them drop out of the top four and also getting knocked out of the FA Cup and EFL Cup, but one player who has been linked with the club to add that bench strength is Julian Brandt.

The 20-year-old German winger has been in great form for Bayer Leverkusen for a number of seasons and various outlets have suggested that Brandt is just one of the players that Klopp wants to import from the Bundesliga next season.

James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo also believes that Klopp wants to sign the starlet quickly and even added that the Liverpool manager tried to sign him up in the winter window.

While speaking in an interview with the Anfield Edition, Pearce stated:

“I’m not sure if he’s the No 1 target but he’s certainly very high up on Klopp’s summer shopping list. Klopp wanted to buy him in January but Leverkusen were adamant that he wasn’t for sale. Klopp rates Brandt very highly and Liverpool will certainly go all out to get him this summer.”

Leverkusen will be trying to keep hold of their star for as long as they can but there have been reports suggesting that the winger can be bought for around €17 million in 2018. That will play into the hands of any club that is interested in signing Brandt up as the Bundesliga club would want to sell him for as much as they can before the stipulation in his contract hits.

Liverpool know they will have a battle on their hands as many top clubs would want to sign Brandt. But the lure of playing for Klopp could be a reason why the German would want to move to Anfield.

Leverkusen are also struggling in the Bundesliga and are in danger of missing out on European qualification. They even sacked manager Roger Schmidt as they flounder outside the European places in the league and should they not make it to the Europa League at least, Brandt could be leaving in the summer.
