Liverpool strengthened their grip on the fourth spot after a hard fought win over Burnley at Anfield. The Reds had lost their previous meeting against the Clarets away from home and this match started in a similar manner as Ashley Barnes scored in the first half.

The Reds were quite poor to start with, but a goal came from Georginio Wijnaldum before half-time ensured that the side went into the half-time break level.

Surprisingly, it was Burnley who came out all guns blazing in the second half as they looked for their first away win of the season but Emre Can scored a vital goal that provided Liverpool with all three points from the game.

The Reds are now five points clear of Arsenal in fourth position, although the Gunners have a couple of games in hand. Liverpool next face a crunch tie against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
