Jordy Gaspar Has Been Identified As A Potential Target By Liverpool

Liverpool are believed to be targeting Olympique Lyon full-back Jordy Gaspar according to Telefoot (h/t Mirror). Gaspar seems to have impressed the Reds’ scouts and a move in the summer could be on the cards. Liverpool have been short on numbers for the full-back position and signing a young defender like Gaspar could be the right move.

Jordy Gaspar is a product of the Lyon youth academy and made the leap to the Lyon first team this season. Primarily a right-back by trade, Gaspar can also play as a left-back when required and is a versatile option to have in the squad.

This could be a smart move from Liverpool as Jordy Gaspar is versatile. Nathaniel Clyne is virtually irremovable from the team given the way he has been playing. On the other hand, James Milner has been performing exceptionally well as a make-shift left-back, but he cannot be a long-term solution for Jurgen Klopp.

Hence, buying a player like Gaspar would be a good move for the future as Milner isn’t getting any younger. He can be used as a backup to Clyne and Milner for now, and if he makes use of the opportunities that come along his way, Gaspar would surely reach great heights under Jurgen Klopp.

Lyon are preparing for a bidding war this summer but will put up a fight to keep hold of the full-back. Liverpool will allegedly be joined by AC Milan, Fiorentina and Bayer Leverkusen in the race for his signature.

Gaspar has represented France in all the youth levels and is one of the brightest prospects in French football. However, he has made just 3 appearances this season for Lyon, with 2 of them coming in the Ligue1 and 1 in Champions League.

He has also played 3 games in the UEFA Youth league and has an assist to his name. However, the problem seems to be with his discipline on the pitch. He has picked up 2 yellow cards in his 3 appearances for the Lyon senior team. Given that he is just 19-years old, he will surely continue to improve as a player and Liverpool will certainly benefit from signing the player.

If Klopp believes the boy has the potential, then the chances are high that he is right. Be excited Liverpool fans!
