Liverpool certainly need a quality left-back for their side as they have all but given up on Alberto Moreno staking a claim in the first team spot. While James Milner has done an admirable job, the left-back spot isn’t meant for him and that has led to a number of players being linked with the Reds.
The latest addition to that list is Theo Hernandez who is on loan at Deportivo Alaves from Atletico Madrid. The 19-year-old is one of the brightest prospects from Atletico and Spanish publication La Cadena SER claims that Liverpool are the frontrunners to sign the France-born defender.
Liverpool have offered to triple his pay package according to the same report. The player is also on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe such as Real Madrid and Bayern Munich and they too will try to snap up the player.
Hernandez has done a pretty good job for Deportivo Alaves this season and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is recalled by Atletico next season. The player doesn’t have the biggest buy-out clause which is stated to be £21 million and if Liverpool are serious in their interest, they might have to stump up a little bit more for Hernandez.
The Kop Times Verdict
While Hernandez would be a player to look out for the future, he doesn’t seem to be the right candidate for Liverpool at the moment. The Reds need someone who can fit into the first team and deal with the rigours of the Premier League football.
They will be linked with a number of players in the coming months and while Milner could still do a job, it would be unfair on him as he is a midfielder. The summer will be a busy one for Liverpool and they surely will be in the market for a quality left-back as Moreno is a sure shot to leave the club.
