Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has reportedly suffered a head injury in the Netherlands camp and was withdrawn from the training session. Sadly, Wijnaldum’s previous injury at Liverpool also came when he was on Netherlands duty.

The Liverpool midfielder has become a key component of Jurgen Klopp’s side and would be a massive miss to the team that struggles for consistency.

However, Wijnaldum’s injury is not believed to be serious and he is expected to be fit in time for the World Cup qualifying game against Bulgaria. Netherland’s broadcaster NOS Studio Voetbal did not state how Wijnaldum sustained the head injury with the Dutch set to play Bulgaria on Saturday.

Wijnaldum last picked up an injury problem when he suffered a hamstring injury while on duty with the Netherlands National team in October, and as a result, missed a game against Manchester United.

“When I got up I felt sick and I felt that I had to throw up,” Wijnaldum said.

“The doctor took me straight from the pitch. Fortunately, it’s a bit better.

“The nausea went away quickly so there is no problem for Saturday.”

The news will come as a relief as Wijnaldum has been one of the very few players who have been consistent this season. Things have largely depended on the Dutchman of late and he has been in sizzling form in the past few weeks. He scored against Arsenal and has been terrific for Liverpool of late.

Wijnaldum has scored 5 goals and has provided 6 assists. He has played 33 times this season and has been on the pitch for 2531 minutes overall. He has been an important figure for the Reds in their midfield three and him getting injured would definitely hurt Liverpool as Jordan Henderson is already out injured.

The Reds have somehow managed to play without their pass master captain, as Emre Can has stepped up in Hendo’s absence. If Wijnaldum gets injured, then it would be Lucas Leiva who would have to slot into midfield.

Though Leiva is a quality player, the momentum and flow with which the Liverpool midfield and attack link up with each other would go missing in the absence of the resurgent Dutchman.

However, with no fears being raised about the head injury, it would be safe to say that Jurgen Klopp has probably gotten away with this one. He might do well to keep his fingers crossed, though.
