Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing highly rated Burnley defender Michael Keane this summer. The 24-year-old has established himself as a key part of Sean Dyche’s side since leaving Old Trafford on a permanent basis in January 2015.

Keane made his senior England debut during the international break and has been a regular starter for Dyche in the Clarets’ fight in the Premier League. The youngster has been brilliant for Burnley this season and has earned a lot of plaudits for his performances.

It is no real surprise that he continues to attract interest and The Sun claim that Liverpool are monitoring him with a reported price-tag of £20m having been placed on him.

However, along with the Reds, Chelsea and Everton are also reportedly interested and there might be a twist in signing the youngster from Burnley. It has been claimed in the report that Manchester United have a 25% sell-on clause in the deal that took Keane to Burnley.

As a result, the Clarets will need to take that into consideration when they receive bids for the player this summer, as the sell-on clause will increase the asking price for the player. Clarets would be keen to make as much cash as possible and the 25% sell-on clause would take a significant sum of money away from them.

Though Burnley would be interested in keeping hold of the player, it would be difficult for them as the clubs linked with a move are all big ones. Eventually, the player’s head will get turned by one of the big clubs and hence it would be wise for Burnley to cash in on the player.

Keane was recently quoted as saying:

“I have confidence in my ability. When I went out on loan I always felt it was to come back and play for United. The coaches always told me that. I feel like the change in manager at times didn’t help me out and as soon as I left there, I wanted to prove them wrong.

“It made me want to work harder. I’m thankful to Sean Dyche for giving me the opportunity to play regularly. It gave me the confidence and hopefully I have proved a few wrong.”

It looks like the player is glad that he has proved certain people at Manchester United wrong and seems to be well motivated. With Liverpool having had to manage by playing Lucas Leiva at the back sometimes, it might be a welcome relief to sign a young prospect like Keane.
