Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is believed to be having Bayer Leverkusen winger Julian Brandt on top of his summer shopping list as the player continues to get linked to Anfield. Now, the latest development in the negotiation is that Brandt has told Klopp that he wants assurance over the amount of game time that he would be getting.
The Sun report that a major deal could be reaching a conclusion, as the negotiations seem to be hitting the right chord. Klopp reportedly has a £25 million cheque ready and is keen on signing his fellow countryman.
The 20-year old’s desire to play regularly made him turn down moves to England in the past, with Chelsea and Manchester City having tried to sign the talented young lad and failing.
A source close to Brandt was quoted as saying:
“Julian will only move if he is in the side. He is not big-headed, he just does not want to be a squad man. It is no good for his career.”
The young German has earned rave reviews for his performances this season for Leverkusen. He has made 33 appearances this season for the German outfit and has 3 goals and 7 assists to his name. Though the numbers aren’t overly impressive, it is important to note what the 20-year old brings to the team other than just goals and assists.
Brandt is versatile and can play on both the wings. Though he primarily plays on the left, he is equally at ease on the right as well. He has also featured 4 times as a secondary striker for Bayer and has notched up 2 assists while playing that position.
Our Verdict
With a lot of experimentation going on with Brandt regarding his best position, Klopp might be the man to find the answer to Julian’s future. Klopp’s smooth history of nurturing young talents would surely appeal to Brandt and this might precisely be why he is showing interest in a move to Anfield.
Though it has been reported that he wants assurances over his role at the club, it is not a matter of big concern as it is natural for any player to seek the answer to this question while looking to move to a new club.
So this looks like a move that is waiting to happen and it is only a matter of time before the parties agree on a feasible transfer sum.
There’s every reason for Liverpool fans to be excited about this news.
