Jurgen Klopp Plots Surprise Move For Crystal Palace Reserve Goalkeeper

Everybody knows about Liverpool’s problems with their goalkeepers. Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have both struggled between the sticks for the Reds this season and there have been a number of players linked with a move to Anfield and now Telefoot claims that Steve Mandanda could be the next goalie at the club.

The outlet claims that Mandanda, who has not played for Crystal Palace since November due to injuries, isn’t happy with his situation at Selhurst Park and it is claimed that Jurgen Klopp wants the former Marseille number one to challenge Mignolet at Anfield next season.

The 32-year-old was a surprise signing at the start of the season for the Eagles but has only played nine Premier League games all season. Mandanda was one of the best keepers in Ligue 1 and it was seen as a bit of a coup by Palace when they managed to snap the former French international up.

An injury cut short his stint as number one for the Eagles and with Wayne Hennessey doing well for Palace, Mandanda has not been able to make it back to the starting XI.

While the goalkeeper is better than the pair at Anfield at the moment, the rumour doesn’t really hold up well. Mandanda isn’t the youngest keeper in the world and he hasn’t played in England for a while as well.

The 32-year-old might prefer a move back to France and Liverpool’s manager had earlier claimed that the pair of Mignolet and Karius would fight it out for the number one spot at the club with Danny Ward, who is out on loan.

Mignolet, for his part, hasn’t done all that badly since returning to the starting XI after being dropped in favour of Karius. The Belgian seemingly was set to leave the club in the coming summer but his performances have shown that he can do well at Anfield.

Liverpool actually have bigger concerns regarding other positions at the club and a move for a new goalkeeper, who isn’t young doesn’t make a lot of sense.
